best.show.ever.

Two words: 30 Rock....well really that was a number and then a word, but since all the shows have started up again it has been the highlight of my thursday night to go home and watch one of my favorite shows of all time 30 Rock...Tina Fey is basically the epitome of genius, and a girl can only wish to be as awesome as Liz Lemon, and this season is better than ever...i mean a 22 minute comedy that can pull of not one, but two live shows has to be the best of the best...and although they didn't win the golden globe this year (since it went to one of my other all time favs Modern Family), it is still totally legen (wait for it) dary!

ps. don't forget to live every week like it's shark week!

Long Time No See....

So it's been a long time since my last post, but that just has to do with midterms starting up...aka no time to do anything but study...plus this week a bunch of my favorite shows are on break, including Parks and Recreation and The Office, two nbc staples that are off until the end of the Winter Olympics. Even though I love watching Shaun White doing crazy flips through the air, I am ready for these shows to come back! Until then all I've got to say is that Grey's Anatomy has finally started to get good again! The season started off shaky, and there are still some story lines I don't really like, but it is definitely much better than it was this fall...this means that if you have stopped watching, you must restart now! I mean no matter how lame the show gets you still get to watch Mc Dreamy and Mc Steamy for forty minutes and that can easily make any day better :)

And the winner is.....

so tonight was the culmination of months and months of cheering, face painting, and eating chicken wings known as the Super Bowl. Personally I love football, but I'm not going to lie, tonight's game was kind of lackluster. Nothing really amazing (good or bad) happened until right near the end. Not that I really cared who won (I'm a Skins fan born and raised) but I do like Peyton Manning. Sadly, though, the Colts got cocky and let the Saints take advantage of them. But in all honestly, who watched the game for the football?? maybe like 30% of people, the rest of us watched for the commercials. Some of my favorites came early during the first quarter-the house made of beer, Betty White playing pick-up football. However, the best had to be the Doritos commercial in which the little boy slaps his mother's date and says "stay away from my mamma, and stay away from my doritos". Im sure there are already dozens of copies of this commercial already up on youtube, and I know personally that there are already two facebook fan pages for the commercial. What were your favorites??

Best Friends or Arch Enemies?

It apparently really is a new decade, and unless you've been living under a rock lately you know that it is that time of year again, no not winter, it's Awards Season. This year award shows have been going all out, trying to get people more interested in watching. The latest changes? Two hosts for this year's Academy Awards. On March 7th, veteran host (and a personal favorite of mine) Steve Martin will team up with 30 Rock's Alec Baldwin to host the award show. This isn't the only change, this year instead of five best picture nominees there are ten. Im not really sure how this is going to end up splitting the vote, but we'll have to tune in and see if James Cameron's "Avatar" can manage to beat out nine other competitors, or if the title of best picture will go to other box office smashes "The Blind Side" and "Up". I find it kind of interesting that this year most of the best picture nominees had big showings at the box office, when in the past the academy has snubbed box office hits (especially those of a sci-fi nature, Star wars anyone?). But I will definitely be tuning in to the first fifteen minutes just to see what Martin and Baldwin bring to the table. After that, it will most likely be up to IMDB to keep me updated on the winners for the night.

Martin and Baldwin in the "Platinum Lounge," which is only open to SNL hosts of 12 times or more. If you haven't seen the skit definitely check it out on Hulu.com

Secret Diary of how Showtime makes great shows

So as a poor college student I can't afford to pay for extra television channels such as HBO and Showtime, but when I'm at home on break I get hooked to shows. What am I supposed to do? Luckily, thanks to the internet, you can pretty much watch any show you want, whenever you want, straight from you laptop. Often the shows on these networks however, have really random and sporadic seasons. This allows for better production quality, but it is sometimes really hard to keep track of when your favorite shows are on. This happened to me this week when i discovered that three new episodes of one of my favorite shows on Showtime had recently aired. "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" is a british comedy that revolves around the life of Hannah Baxter, a woman who lives a secret life of a London Escort. Often compared to "sex in the City", the show focuses on the humorous side of the life Hannah, or "Belle de Jour" leads. Hannah, played by the gorgeous Billie Piper, in turn takes her experiences and writes a book. The third season is about her life as a secret author and the difficulties of trying to write a sequel. In the first three episodes her book is released, her sister separates from her husband and starts sleeping with her best friend Ben, and she starts to have feelings for her editor. Although Hannah's love interests do not always turn out perfectly, the show is great. It is witty, smart, funny, full of one liners, all of which are set off by those great british accents. If you're a girl and you love "Sex in the City" you definitely have to start watching Showtime's "Secret Diary of a Call Girl".

Are you Lost yet?

ABC's "Lost" is one of those shows that I have a continual love-hate relationship with. They constantly change the time slot and day, they kill off and bring in new characters, make almost no progress in the story lines during extremely long episodes, and yet I am still compelled to watch. The show's creators have been saying since the end of last season that all of our questions will finally be answered, but my question is when? I don't know about you, but I came out of this episode even more confused than before, kind of. At some points my friends and I were just like "wait, what just happened??" but at other points we were all saying how it all made so much sense. It must be the constant back and forth from understanding the story and having no idea where it is going that keeps us all watching, cause if it weren't for my extreme desire to know how it all will end I probably would've given up on Lost a long time ago. But therein lies the genius. The writers and creators of the show say they've had it mapped out from the beginning, but if that is true, they have something really odd going on in their heads. Genius, but odd. What do you think, love to get Lost or are you ready for the fate Oceanic flight 815 to be explained already? I dont know about you, but all this traveling through time is giving me a headache lol.
